The natural options for keeping your home clean, hygenic and healthy are many and varied.
Just think about it, for thousands of years we have been happily solving the everyday chores with easy to obtain, safe and effective natural options. It has only been in relatively recent times that we have been seduced by the concept of "germs" and have been sold on the necessity to fill our homes with chemicals designed to speed up the cleaning process. Some of these cleaning products are extremely toxic to us, our children, our pets and the environment. This even extends into some of the materials we are now building our houses from. If we take a step back and relearn some of the techniques employed by generations past we may turn the corner in the dependance on some of these harsh chemicals.
There are many inexpensive, easy to use natural cleaning alternatives which can be used safely in place of commercial household cleaning products. One shelf of simple and relatively safe ingredients can be used to perform most home cleaning chores. All that's needed is a knowledge of how they work, and how different ingredients can be combined to get the cleaning power needed for a specific job. We have all been exposed for instance to the cleaning power of Baking Soda, afterall it is now sometimes added to toothpaste as a crossover point of difference to get you to buy that brand. But what else can it do? You would be pleasantly surprised!
Many household cleaning products, such as furniture polish, oven cleaners, drain cleaners and even air freshners are classified as hazardous waste. Almost all commercially available floor and furniture waxes contain neurotoxic petroleum-based solvents. Neurotoxic chemicals cab cause headaches, lack of concentration, irritability and more. Most households contain dozens of bottles of various cleaning products. People often invest in separate products for specific cleaning jobs: we have been lead to belief through years of exposure to advertising and marketing that we need the latest and greatest bathroom cleaner, bathroom tile cleaner, toilet cleaner and antiseptic sprays for bathroom services - and that is just the bathroom!!!! Not too mention the money that gets poured into advertising the threat of illness and disease from poorly cleaned kitchen services requiring specific sprays for aerial dispersion of airborn germs and smells, bleaches and antiseptic products for benchtop cleaning, industrial strenght oven cleaners for "those really tough jobs". The laundry does not get away lightly either with many different stain removal, soaking and rinse aid products all designed to specifically target a different section of stains and concern over the ability to retain the cleanliness and freshness of our clothing.
In short most of these store bought, ready to "spray and walk away" cleaners are dangerous to your home, your family and the environment. A household really only needs 2-3 homemade, non-toxic organic products and a bit of discipline to keep the entire home sparkling clean!
